The Summer Solo - with sunny intervals!
Our Summer Solo ran during the same stormy weekend which saw the Silverstone car parks awash, with Wimbledon contenders having to play indoors, and the weather at Barton Stacey was distinctly mixed, so this report brings you an assortment of pictures, from the day's brighter moments.
Andre Martin is seen here enjoying the last course of the afternoon, in his TVR Chimaera V8; Alan Vinall and his Clio Sport 182 were heading for first place in Class D, the over 1800 cc hatchbacks and saloons; and the yellow MX5 was being shared by Roger Scott and George Rogers in Class E, for production sports cars.
CSMA member Stephen Mosley was entering this event for the first time, with his 2 litre engined Chevette; Martin Charles, of the MG Car Club, finished second in class C with his very smart 1.8 MG ZS 120; and from Dolphin MC, Paul Rush was driving this Toyota Starlet, its 1300 engine spiced up with a turbocharger.
Among the new FDMC members, competing in an AutoSolo for the first time, were Charlie Canon, driving her Peugeot 206; David Ley, with his well - prepared 1380 Mini, and Katrina Samuel, in her Nissan Micra.
In Class E, ten out of the eleven entrants were driving Mazda MX5's, and Arthur Chan took the first place in this class with his silver example, also finishing fourth overall. Anna Prescott took the Ladies Award with this 1300 Mini, which her brother Martin also drove to win Class B, and Ian Coull with his Skoda Octavia finished third in Class D.
