The Index of happiness ??

Montgomery Lines parade ground was the scene for our third AutoSolo of 2009, led by a new organising team, and trialling a new method for deciding the overall positions. For the first overall award (only), with the aim of compensating for the performance differences between different types of car, the final times in each class were multiplied by varying factors, based on the results of our recent Solos (aka the FDMC Solo Index).

Under this system, Kevin Belcher of Oxford MC took first overall, driving his Subaru Impreza, with the second and third overall places on Index going to Russell Smith and his 1.6 Honda CRX (following some creative repairs to the exhaust system), and Steve Woodings with his Mazda MX5.

Silhouetted in the Aldershot sunshine - it can only be Paul Prescott, who took his 1300 Mini to fourth overall on Index. Fifth and sixth overall came Andrew Thompson in his 1.6 Caterham, and Keith Pettit with his 1275 Sprite, with all three of these drivers also winning their classes.

So....the Index system placed drivers from six different classes, into the first six positions....does this mean that it worked? You'll probably find some views about this, on our Forum !

The rest of this report aims to include some of the cars and drivers who weren't featured from our last Solo, starting with this mystery car, driven by Andy Owler. Can you identify it? If not, follow this report through to Page 3, for the answer.

As an FDMC contribution to the 50th Anniversary celebrations, we invited some local owners to bring their Minis along for a static display, with some of them being shown here, and the periods between the Solo runs gave everyone a chance to check out these lovingly prepared and restored examples.
