Action Replay, at Martinique
For our second AutoSolo of 2009, the action moved to Martinique Parade Ground, Bordon, with the weather varying between rain and sunshine. After another day of close competition, the first three overall positions at the finish were..... the same as our March Solo, with Andrew Thompson's smooth yet speedy style bringing his silver Caterham home just four seconds ahead of Barry McLure's orange car, and Carl Streatfield in hot pursuit with his Mazda MX5.
Through our usual format of four different course layout, with three runs at each, and your two best times to count, Mike Biss repeated his expert performance of last year, hurling the 2 litre Astra into 4th overall, ahead of nearly all the sports cars, while Jim Withers, driving a newly acquired Westfield instead of his usual MG Midget, was straight onto the pace, to finish 5th overall and 3rd in class F.
With Classes A and B running near the front of the field, Ken Martin in his Peugeot 106 XSi, and James Mumford and Elizabeth Mumford with their MGB GT V8, were among those helping to empty some of the larger puddles on the course.
David Woodridge was a first - time competitor with his BMW, as was Matthew Hens with his MX5, shared by Claire Neate. Sean Finch, now in his second season of FDMC Solos, took his Mitsubishi Evo to 8th overall, and second out of 15 entries in Class D, for the larger engined saloons.
