Closing the season - the September Solo
For the September Solo, the organising team was led by Richard Aldcroft and Carl Streatfield, and with this event also forming the final round of our 2010 Solo Challenge, a healthy entry ensured the usual close competition. This report shows you a selection of the award winners, and the range of cars which take part in Solos.
In the final overall positions, it was Andrew Thompson's turn to take Fastest Time of Day with his silver Caterham, just ahead of Tom Caldecourt in his blue Westfield. With most of the top 10 finishers driving sports cars, Ben Griffin took another strong result, pushing his Peugeot 106 Rallye into 4th overall, as well as winning Class C.
Newly - joined FDMC members, who were taking part in their first Solo, included Shane Forkner, who was sharing Ian Hardy's Mazda MX5; James Colver with his Celica GT4; and Duncan Brown, competing with his 205 GTi in Class F, and finishing highest among the 'tin tops' (rally and track day prepared hatchbacks) in this class, behind the more nimble low volume sports cars.
Among the competitors from the invited clubs, David Gawen, from the CSMA, was driving this classic Mk 1 Golf GTi; Sophie Bennett was contesting the BTRDA Newcomers' Autosolo series, in the Nissan Micra; MGCC member Jeremy Bayne-Powell took second in Class A with his Midget; and Oxford MC's Sam Thonpson drove his rally prepared Hillman Avenger GT.
