The Final Fling
September 13th saw the drivers lining up for our last AutoSolo of 2009, at Montgomery Lines, on a dry but mainly cloudy day. The Class F cars were soon setting the pace, with Andrew Thompson in his silver Caterham eventually taking fastest time of day, and Russell Smith in his Class C Honda CRX coming through to win the Index award.
Steve Woodings took his Mazda MX5 to third overall, and first in Class E for production sports cars, while in Class D, for larger engined saloons and hatchbacks, Russell Roberts woke up the regular Solo entrants by snatching the class win, driving his rally prepared 205 GTi.
Keith Pettit, whose Sprite engine had died on arrival at the event, took the offer to share Peter Manning's Mini instead, and..... yes, you guessed it, he beat the car's owner, on the way to winning Class B. Shaun Finch, with his Evo restored to health, took second place in Class D, just 2 seconds adrift of Russell Roberts.
Paul Brimelow and his MG TF scored another good result with second place in Class E, while Rob Rollinson finished just ahead of co-driver David Crowe in their Escort Mk 4 RS2000, caught here in one of the rare moments of sunshine.
