Mothers Day - FDMC style - at Montgomery Lines

Celebrating Mothers Day with an AutoSolo proved popular with FDMC members (we're not so sure about their mums), also bringing us a welcome day of sunshine. For the top overall positions, Andrew Thompson and his silver Caterham again managed to take and hold a narrow lead until the end, but Barry McClure in his orange Caterham, and Carl Streatfield with his MX5 were very close behind - could it be different next time?

Although running in different classes, David Garside, with his home-brewed 2 litre Nova, and Steve Woodings in his newly acquired Renault Clio Trophy were very closely matched, with the Vauxhall eventually finishing just 2 seconds ahead, to take 4th overall, and both drivers taking class awards.

Matt Wheatley and his Westfield finished 6th overall and third in Class F, while David Manning drove the family 1400 Mini to 7th overall and win Class B, with father Peter also sharing this car.

From among more than 50 entries, this report aims to show you some of variety within these events, and to show that Solos can be just as suitable for larger cars, new member Duncan Rodd, in his first Solo, took this Vectra diesel to 24th overall and 6th in class D; while Sean Finch with his Mitsubishi Evo finished 10th overall and second in the same class, with Adam Garside and his BMW 320i in pursuit.

This Mk 2 Golf, having received much workshop attention from its owner David Sampson and Martin Prescott, was having its first competitive outing, and put in a good performance, with the two drivers finishing 11th and 5th in Class D.
