Fast and loose, at Deepcut!
Our 11th annual loose surfaced slalom featured a strong entry from FDMC and several invited clubs, with quite a few cars being shared by two drivers, but (mostly) surviving the day, and this report is to bring you a selection of the entrants. The drivers took three runs through the three morning tests, and then two runs through the three afternoon tests, after which the overall winner was, again, Roger Dudley, with his Mini based Scamp kit car.
Young Joe Bailey from Bournemouth & DCC, taking part in his first ever motorsport event, finished second in the PCA (Production Car Autotest) section, in the Mini 1275 GT. His father, Richard, competing in the main event, finished second overall with this same car, also winning Class A. Minis (the proper, BMC kind) are hard to beat for this event, as shown here by Kevin Lower, who took third overall in his red 1300 car, and second in Class A.
FDMC members competing for the first time at Deepcut included David Hockaday, with his Golf GTi; Chris Surman, who finished second in Class C, in the Impreza which he drove in our recent Sprint Royale; and Richard Roberts, sharing this Vauxhall Corsa Merit with CSMA member David Gawen.
The Mazda MX5 was being shared between Ben Boas and the car's owner, Ian Hardy, with Ben driving here, while Tom and Richard West from Brighton and Hove MC were taking turns to drive another Corsa. The Suzuki Vitara was being driven, in a very spirited fashion, by Mark Edwards, who's also from Brighton.
