Mists over Rushmoor
The morning started mistily for this year's Sprint Royale, as the cars lined up for Scrutineering, and competitors and marshals joined the queue for the even more important business of breakfast.
With cars being unloaded, and the occasional lone driver setting off to walk the Rushmoor Arena course, some sunshine did break through at times... until it was time for the practice runs, when the startline scene looked something like this, as Andy Owler's Audi S3 and Chris Davis's Lotus 7 wait for their turn.
Fast-forward to the afternoon, and with visibility getting more normal, after three timed runs, the fastest time of day went to Will Thomas from the Isle of Wight Car Club, on 50.26 seconds in the orange Porsche, with Derek Thomas also driving this car. Among the more local drivers, Karl Stevens finished third overall, his Escort using some of the grass here, on its way to a time of 50.92 seconds.
Derek Buttle, sharing the green Westfield with Mike Denny, got down to 51.58 to finish fourth overall and first in Class 7; while in Class 1, standard cars up to 1600cc, the winner was Jamie Yapp, who also finished an impressive 19th overall in the humble 1.4 Nova - on his first visit to Rushmoor.
David Hunt and his Impreza were among those competing in Class 6, and some determined driving by Paul Fidler took his Mini to finish 6th overall, as well as taking first place in Class 9.
